Midlands Meet Up, B'ham, 2nd Sep 2014

Some of us get together from time to time in order to talk about the latest issue of Heat magazine, global politics, important developments in lipstick manufacture and, er, Baby-Led Weaning.

What's the appetite for a Midlands meet up? As a randomly picked date, how about Wednesday 20th August? If you can't make then, suggest when you can and we'll see what the majority can do.

Birmingham is probably an obvious city to pick as I would assume it's fairly easy for East, West, North and South people to get to. I have no idea where would be a good place to meet - are there any parks or open spaces or great places within a 10 min or so walk from New Street Station?

I'm not well enough for an August meet but I'd love to come to the next one.

I never find the city centre particularly kid friendly, but the KidCity area and Science Park at the Thinktank fit the bill of near New St and great for kids, it just isn't the cheapest!

Other than that BMAG (Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery) often have things for kids on during school holidays, Minibeast Roadshow etc, you'd just have to be pretty specific on the day. And the Town Hall have a stage show of The Gruffalo during August.

Nicest park is Cannon Hill, it is walkable from the city centre but it's a trek.

Izbiz starts nursery the week after next; he'll be going on Thursdays and Fridays, so early in the week would suit us best. Other than that I am totally flexible on days/dates.

Anyone else?

If not, we might as well leave a Birmingham meet for a bit until you feel a bit more human p_h, and Lily and I could always do another local meet if we're up for it :)

Hurray, the more the merrier! And I need an excuse to get to Birmingham otherwise I will ever get round to it.

Remind me what days of the week suit you CT? I know you can do Fridays but that's one of our nursery days now.

I'd like to meet up sometime but can't do that week, leave me out for now and I'll try and make it to the next one.

How about early Sep Kitcameron if the rest of us are reasonably flexible? It'd be great for as many of us as poss to make it.

I can do Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but if earlier in the week is best for Izbiz, how about a Tuesday - Tuesday 2nd Sep?

Think I can do that.

Ok, not trying to be rude or anything, and please don't take this the wrong way, but how do I tell my dh I'm planning on taking my kids to meet a grp of people I only know online and could technically be serial killers for all I know?

It's sounding like a plan for Tues 2nd Sep...Skippy/Lily/anyone else, is that date ok with you?

Is he likely to be alarmed at you meeting us KC? I think I'm pretty normal, and
Lily seemed to be as well, not that that will help you convince him :)

I'm not sure. I think it would alarm me if the tables were turned and he wanted to take the girls to meet a group of lads he didn't know apart from online.

Maybe it's just the fact that I've spent years teaching kids never to meet up with people they talk to online as 'they may not be who they seem'. Can't see why that type of person would hang out here though lol. I trust all of you guys to be who you say you are, but really I have no guarantee.

He says yes as long as he can come check you all out first, then he'll disappear and go look round Birmingham. Yey, we're in

Hurrah :) .

Now, if that date's ok with everyone else, we just need to think about where and at what time to meet...

I've had a quick look on the t'internet for the 'where' and I think P_H's suggestion of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery looks a good option as it seems to offer a place to meet (the tearoom cafe) and something to do for those who want to do something after we've met:

http://www.bmag.org.uk/birmingham-museum

How about from 10.30 onwards in the BMAG cafe, or is that a bit early?

Or if anyone else has any other suggestions, then suggest away - I don't mind!

Excellent! Yep, Tues 2nd works for me. We should be able to get into Birmingham for mid-morning. What about Thinktank or BMAG as ph suggested?

KC, I believe dating sites always advise people to meet in a public place. If we look like axe murderers there will be plenty of bystanders to rescue you!
