I gave this to my little girl the other day (before I saw this on here) and she loved it!

Avocado is a great alternative to Banana.

Mix mashed bananna and advacodo – my baby loves it. Actually I’ve been known to steal a bit for my toast too sometimes :-)

would you use dry toast or with butter?

  5. Sofia says:

Regular white toast/whole wheat or another grain? We were told not to introduce wheat too early but it doesn’t sound like its a big problem from these comments. Also, what are ‘soldiers’? Do you mean long slices?

    • Aitch says:

Yes, ‘soldiers’ are fingers, or at least that’s what the toast-loving UK calls them. Our guidelines are that wheat is A-Okay from 6 months, but some people say that too much brown bread makes digesting some vits tricky. Mine didn’t eat so much bread that I thought that could possibly be a problem, though.

I like this idea but my baby has no teeth can she still eat this??? Shes 7 months

    • Aitch says:

of course she can… think of it like this… she has teeth, they’re just underneath the gum. and as you might know if she’s ever bitten you, those are hard little gums. ;D

Jaila, The idea of baby-led weaning is that you can feed baby regular foods even if they don’t have teeth. Their gums are very strong and they can gnaw pretty well even before their teeth come in. Most of the recipes on here should be okay even without teefers :)

Is there a reason to toast the bread instead just eating as is? It seems like toast would be rough on the gums, no?

    • Aitch says:

actually, there is… bread itself gets a bit more claggy and choke-y. And they’ll soon tell you if their gums are feeling tender, anyway.

Seconding this. The one time my toddler has ever choked on something was on bread with peanut butter on it (she was more than two at the time, I just was a little too generous with the peanut butter and she shoved too much into her mouth at once). So since then I almost always toast bread for her if I plan to put peanut butter on it.

Aitch, I just noticed there are no breadcrumbs on the recipes on this site. You can’t see whether this snacks or breakfast, for example.

    • Aitch says:

ooh, sorry, i don’t understand what you mean, could you explain a bit more?

      • Jessica says:

“Breadcrumbs” is a web design term (at least I use it) that essentially means leaving a trail behind of where your page is in your “file system”. The biggest reason why this helps is if someone pulls up the recipe page by itself (like someone emailed you a direct link to this page) you know exactly how to find it again from navigating through the main recipe page. A good way of creating this trail is by having a header at the top of the page like “Breakfast > Mashed Bananas on Toast” or on the right side where you have your list of links – put an indented bullet underneath “Breakfast” with the recipe title. Hope this helps!

      • Aitch says:

cheers, Jessica. so i’d have to go back through all the recipes, then?

I made this for my six-month-old son ans he lovefilm ist. And he ate quite much for his age:-)

Can I use English Muffins instead of bread?

    • Aitch says:

absolutely, yes. i know someone who did muffins as pizzas as well, and you can slice them down so that they’re quite good value. do toast them, though.

My daughter loves this! I also put mashed apricots, sweet potato and blueberry on toast or waffles :) she’ll be 10 months in 2 days.

Made this for my dd, 6 mo. old lastnight to try BLW for the first time & she loved it! I cut the piece of bread into 3 long strips & she ate two! Then of course she needed a bath, but it was great seeing her so happy & messy!
