Help! What just happened?

Postby qbm » 23 Jul 2016, 06:05

I've been sitting on the sofa checking fb and have just replied to emzit's thread. I stood up to go to the kitchen and stretched. I started to get pin pricks of light in front of my eyes, then more colours swam in front of my eyes. My head felt funny so I grabbed onto the door. Then I collapsed. I came back round immediately.

What the hell?

My head feels a bit like it does when the weather is close and there's going to be a storm.

I just had to approve my own post!

Just realised that the pin pricks of light thing has happened a couple of times in the last couple of days when I've stood up too quickly.

Could that just be it?

Feeling faint wen you stand up too quickly is a low blood pressure thing, isn't it? I have BP on the low side and often get heads pins, but have never passed out. Trip to the GP?

Yes, I often get brief visual blackouts and a strong head rush when I stand up, due to v low blood pressure. But def see your GP as collapsing might be more serious.

That sounds about right. I gave blood a month or so ago and had to spend the whole time wiggling my toes, squeezing my fingers and clenching my buttocks all at the same time as my blood pressure was so low the machine kept beeping.

I will go to the go too though. I said I came round immediately but I'm not sure how long I was on the floor before OH came through to see what was happening. Still, can't have been long.

Thanks for the replies.

Hope you feel ok now qbm. Definitely sounds like low bp and a trip to the doctors would be best if you passed out. Feet up with a cup of tea and a biscuit this afternoon I hope?

I too have low blood pressure and frequently black out, although I can't recall actually collapsing in the past few years.
I love my kiddos! Two April girls (2011 and 2013) and a May boy (2016). I guess we have spring babies in this family.

The only time I passed out from low bp (do often feel dizzy/ head rush and hold on to things) was during my period when I was as teenager. Think the hot weather makes it worse as all your blood vessels are dilated.

Glad to know it's not that unusual/worrying. I tend to really worry at the slightest hint that something might be wrong with me. Only since having children. Felt ok the rest of the day, a bit lightheaded a couple of times but I was obviously over analysing how I was feeling. I will make a gp appointment anyway but I'm at least feeling reassured.

Pleased you're getting it checked out by the dr. I often get head rushes too on standing up and the machine kept beeping when I gave blood! I'm pretty certain that if I didn't sit down again when I go wuzzie I'd black out but it's never actually happened...except once when pregnant. Get yourself checked but don't worry. Let us know how it goes - I'm interested for myself too!

Is it not woozy? Not being a grammar/spelling fiend (well, probably a little bit) but is that what you mean? As in dizzy?

I say wuzzie. It's probably a corruption of woozy, and thinking about it I guess it means the same thing, but in my head it's definitely wuzzie (ie pronounced like that, not the wrong spelling of woozy...I am a spelling/grammar fiend too :-D).

"You don't have to be a grammar/spelling fiend to live here, but it helps!"

So, how is wuzzie pronounced? Like fuzzy? And is it a combination of feeling woozy and fuzzy?
