Child-friendly pub in Winchester area?

We're breaking the journey to our holiday by having lunch and letting the kids run around, somewhere in the vicinity of Winchester (approaching from north, then going east). Any recommendations for a pub that will do a decent lunch and have space outdoors for the kids to burn off some energy?

(Or alternative ideas that would accomplish the same thing)

We met up with some weaners in the cricketers in Alresford...Bit out of the way but lovely play area! Or the king Charles in Kings worthy has a play area too but not quite as nice.

Ah I just wrote a long reply and it went!

I recommend The Bridge at Shawford. It's about 10 mins from Winchester. We go there fairy regularly and we always have a decent lunch/dinner there. It has a big garden although no playground slide or swing etc but it's right next to the river itchen so you could have a lovely stretch of the legs before or after.

The staff are always helpful, the menu varied and appealing including a kids menu. They allow dogs if you have one and there's plenty of parking.

I think the name of the river was too close to k-room, so you had to be approved!

I saw the mention of the Cricketers when I searched through old threads, but I see from their website that they're under new management since last Feb. Anyone know if they're still good for food etc?

Tiffany, can I ask where you are from? Some of your posts seem a little strange and I'm wondering if it's a language barrier.

There are lots of child friendly pubs and it certainly doesn't make you a bad parent for stopping in one for lunch
