How thin do you think I dare roll fondant icing?
I'm making a 'stacking cup' cake for Peanut's birthday tomorrow and have just discovered I don't have the 2nd block of icing I thought I did! argh.
I know I'm crazy but seriously the kid is obsessed.

The icing is really too thin so they're quite wobbly but I think it looks ok. The purple cake had to be made smaller because I was running out of icing!

That's a really cute idea. Did you know you can bake cakes in baked bean tins?? they would be great for that.

That would have been brilliant, shame DH had stamped on them and recycled them! He loved it, though he did try swiping at it to see if it would fall like normal cups do!

I've got a cupcake question. Dh's birthday is on a sunday and I was hoping to make cupcakes on the friday, will they last ok? I have though maybe I'll do the icing decorations on Friday and bake the cakes saturday and assemble them. I'm cooking him a birthday dinner on the Sat evening otherwise I'd have done them then!!

Any ideas for a mans 50th, the man in question is my stepdad. his interests include photography, allotments,i.t & paleo diets. im at a bit of a loss, what cake do you cook for someone who doesnt do cake.

Hmm, that's tricky one fww. Could ou make a carrot cake as a tie in to the allotment?

Another question from me. What is best o use to stick icing decorations on? I am just cutting shapes from icing, not like its free standing decorations or anything. I usually use some icing/water mix or just water but recently read somewhere about using jam.

What do you use?

Kanga what are you sticking them to? Cake? Another layer of icing?

He has helped me out by saying he'd like chocolate

If you are sticking icing to icing, use water, or clear alcohol. If something 3d you can use edible glue, but I don't think it is necessary for flat pieces.

4ww, that's tricky. On the I.T. side, I once did an @ symbol cake (like a keyboard key, but round, a square one might have been better). Very straightforward, can dig out a pic.

Sorry, icing to icing yes. I do remember now my mum making Eddie cakes & using vodka as an adhesive! Think I'll stick to water though!

I did think i could do a large rectangle and make it an optitions chart with some sort if quote about being 50/aging in decreasing sized text, but he may or may not see the funny side.

Or could just do chocolate finger sides and 50 on top with brown and white malteases - which is a lot less work.
