WTH!! Someone is advertising on my blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the heck!!! Just noticed there is an ad on one of my blog posts! How did it get there and how do I get rid of it!!!??????????

I was about to post the link here, but now the ad is gone! What's going on? It said something like ad choices in the corner.

a) no ads visible to me!
b) how have I not looked at your blog before???? Don't have time to go through it all now (both girls wanting attention) but I'll be reading it all tonight after they're asleep!

I don't know why it's there, but Ad Choices is a google thing. Like pay per click ads/sponsored listings at the top of the search listings, company's can pay google to display ads at a variety of websites that they have deals with. However, I'm pretty sure as it's a blog you should have a choice whether they are displayed or not. None of the blogs I manage get them appearing. So maybe check through the tools/settings bits?

Yep, I just saw an ad there too, but I take so little notice that I don't know what it was for!

Just checked again and it is now for a tree surgeon. At the bottom of the ad is a link for "AdChoices" which takes you to Google Adsense. It says that some blogs/sites are partnered with GoogleAds, and GoogleAds uses my demographics to tailor adverts to me personally. I have just opted out of personalised adverts, so now I guess I will just get random stuff!

WordPress.com put adverts on free blogs to keep them free. It would have been in the terms when you signed up see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/

Yuck!

Someone on the Wordpress forums said, 'If the ads are in the form of highlighted words that link to ads then your browser is broken with some sort of add on that is highlighting the words - you need to fix your browser.'

For the people who saw the ads, was it highlighted words that link to ads?

I guess I really really need a website now, so I can have a blog as part of it and no ads. Just need to figure out all this website stuff and where to get one!
