baked beans

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

baked beans

Does anyone have a good recipe that would emulate heinz baked beans? T is fanatical about beans and I worry that I give hime too many of them...... If he could, he would eat them EVERY meal of the day.... frequently on Fri, Sat and Sun, he gets them at one meal each day although if he could it would be every meal..... Do you think this is too much. I do buy the reduced sugar /salt variety. This bean fetish has been going on for months. btw, he is just over 2yo.

Thanks v much

Would he eat plain beans? My DD is really keen on baked beans, but is also more than happy to eat plain tinned beans (butter beans, chickpeas etc). Or you could make a tomato sauce and stir plain beans into it?

A word of caution about the reduced salt and sugar option: check for artificial sweeteners. Heinz might be ok, but the supermarket own-brand ones I've looked at contain aspartame and saccharin.

I had Boston baked beans (while in Boston) and they were great - not as sugary as Heinz but just as sweet as they are made with molasses. Downside is that ther are also made with bacon - you could perhaps reduce the quantity? They do take ages though so I would perhaps cheat by using plain tinned cannelini (sp?) beans.

Google Boston baked beans and see what recipe you like best!

Jamie Oliver has a good recipe in his at home book - humble home-cooked beans.. I've done these a few times and they are nice, though bit of a faf compared to the good old tin! Still, mine will eat them and they both LOVE heinz..

thanks everyone for your responses - having done some searching I have found a very tasty recipe to which I have added more vegetables than usual. He wolfs them down and it has been a great success.
