Ezcema Baby and suntan lotion... Anyone know a good one?

For the label-readers amongst us, a place to marvel at food manufacturers' ability to add milk powder to everything.

Ezcema Baby and suntan lotion... Anyone know a good one?

Postby MummaQ » 22 Mar 2012, 14:13

With baby having infantile ezcema and the creams the doctor recommended in the start of dealing with his ezcema were awful and made his skin worse. I tracked down an organic natural cream that has cleared up his dribble rash completely and is keeping his eczema just about under control.

So as the sun is shining, I thought its time to get a sun screen, any one use a good one for baby/children with ezcema? I'd like a few recommendations before buying something and potentially making his skin worse.

You're in the UK?

You can probably do without the sunscreen.

For my ezcema baby, I kept her out of the sun or in long sleeved cotton clothing whilst she was under one. Thereafter I used Proderm and still do:

I looked at the British Eczema Society website - they do a good detailed explanation of sunscreens, how they work and do some testing and reviews too. Have a google.

Omg praline, that is a fab site, I wanted a pop up sun tent for the garden and a uv sun hat for baby, what a great link! Thank you! I might get some proderm and see do a patch test.

I too won't keep baby in the sun. I try to stay in at hottest point in the day, but there will always be that family picnic or trip to the zoo etc, so want to be prepared. I also frazzle in the sun and suffer with sunstroke easily, it runs in the family and we (all my sisters and I) used to get nosebleeds and all sorts as kiddies, so although sunscreen wasn't a done thing when we were kiddies... Hats were! But as an adult I've used factor 50 when in the sun in the hottest part of the day because I burn easily and try to find shade where possible.

Baby is nearly crawling now I doubt by the time summer comes I'll be able to just sit him in the shade! And he will be one in August, so right in the middle of summer!

Both my girls have relatively mild eczema but for DD1 suncreme was ALWAYS a cause for bad flair-ups. We live in Scotland so luckily it's not a huge problem most of the year but I have tried many different brands, particularly in the toddler won't wear a hat phase (she's old enough now to understand the no hat, no outdoor play rule). Anyway having tried a number of specialist (very expensive) brands I've found that the GArnier Ambre Solaire 50+ solid sticks 'for delicate areas' (no lotions or creams, these cause flair-ups) are what works for us. these are great for back of neck, nose ears etc and if she can't have long sleeves/trousers then i use on arms and legs too. However i do only use if really necessary and covering up alone is not enough. May be worth a try?

Thanks Hun, will bare that in mind! My LO not too bad with hats at the moment touch wood, he's been warning a baseball cap, but would prefer a uv protection one if this summer I
Is to be a hot one. I've done some research and found some UV SPF 50+ romper suits... Could be the the answer.. That way no creams! but the solid stick for nose and ears etc, could be the answer! Thanks for the info! Will check it out! Xx

I always use amber solaire 50+ for sensitive skin. I make sure I get the one with 5 UVA stars. Hs skin is so bad atthe minute I must restock on this.

My sister got one prescribed from my nephew and as she was putting it on him (sun sense? 50spf) she noticed it was fragranced. It flared his skin right up!
Very proud mummy to three little stars:
