travel games for 6-yr-olds

Best high chair? (We all know it's the Ikea one really but refusniks will bring us tales of Tripp-Trappery and booster seats). Have you discovered an excellent finger food snack, toothbrush, bib or more importantly A Lipstick That Really Does Stay On?

My big two are really into games at the moment - of the traditional board game / card game sort, so I thought I'd get something for the summer holidays. Everything seems to come in such massive boxes, and I was also wondering about something we could take away on holiday with us, so just wondered if anyone had any top tips for games that might travel? They don't need to be utterly portable, but relatively neat (though something we can play on the train / in the airport would be good too). Things that have grabbed them recently have been Uno, chess, Cranium and some rather more obscure things they've been playing in the waiting room at our local circus skills workshop (as you do), like Carcassonne, Ricochet Robots and Squiggle. Interestingly old games do seem to come in more sensibly-sized boxes.

We had a travel Connect Four our last trip that Scout Kid really enjoyed. Blokus is a great simple board game, though not portable. Battleship? Portable but kind of a disaster is the pieces do spill. Yahtzee, all you really need are the dice and scorecards so even if it comes in s big box you needn't travel with it.

Definitely Yahtzee. Also, I have a card game called Fluxx that would work for kids, too. What about Boggle?

we were just given a dice storytelling game for the puppy's birthday. Nine dice with various pictures on them and a paper explaining the pictures. You throw and then tell a story based on the pictures you get. No idea what it's called but could that work?

We have that mp. It's called Rory's Story Cubes I think. L loves having us use them to tell him a story but he's less willing to make up his own stories with them.

You could also do games on paper. Tic-tac-toe. The one where you have a grid of dots and take turns connecting them to make squares. Mad-Libs.

Dobble is amazing - card game in a tin. We spent all last summer playing Uno - great fun!
