Does anybody know if you can use a steam mop on Amtico or Karndean flooring? I am worried the glue will melt in the high temperatures.

You can't with Karndean, it will melt the glue. I think it's the same for Amtico.

I am about to out down Karndean and my fitter told me that I can use the steam mop.

Hmmm..... may have to check that with him.

Karndean will definitely tell you that you can't use a steam mop, I called them to check. I would rethink if you heart your steam mop.

I have amtico in our dining room and it's been fine with the steam mop. I do try not to leave it in one place for too long, as I think the little & often approach is less likely to cause melting, but as I can no longer physically get down on my hands and knees (& I don't have a normal mop!), it's better that it gets clean. Still looks fine (if a bit old/scratched...it needs that resurfacing thing doing to it) to me.

Having cogitated about it overnight, I am going to risk the steam mop on a Karndean floor and do as Allie says above. If you keep it light and swift, I think it'd be OK.

I'm maybe too late to pitch in to this discussion but DH is a tradesman and while doing a job, the customer told him that her steam mop had damaged her amtico floor. It was peeling off at the edges of the room. She has stopped using the mop and in fact gave it to the other tradesman working there. I was a bit miffed DH hadn't taken it!
