Skimlinks - funding the site etc

Best high chair? (We all know it's the Ikea one really but refusniks will bring us tales of Tripp-Trappery and booster seats). Have you discovered an excellent finger food snack, toothbrush, bib or more importantly A Lipstick That Really Does Stay On?

Aitch, if what it's supposed to be doing is sending me to the Amazon US site when I click the link, I promise that isn't working. I go to the UK site.

So how does this skim thing work? Like, if I recommend someone in a thread a waterproof suit I like and put a link in, and someone click it and buys it, then you get money?

How it's SUPPOSED to work is that if, say, you or another poster links to a product on amazon or ebay (for example), skimlinks adds an affiliate ID to that and aitch gets 70% of any affiliate revenue (which is generally a few pence, so not the biggest money spinner, but nice and non-intrusive unlike big gawking flashing banners etc)

Seems like we had a setting ticked earlier that auto-linked random stuff which should be turned off now..

yep, that was a thing called skim words, rather than skim links... it was on automatically and pretty cack if you ask me. let's try the skim links thing, see what happens. if it's duff, it's off.

While you're talking about amazon, aitch, I got some stuff a while back - Christmas? - from amazon.it. After having clicked on the link which took me to the UK site, I clicked through to the .it site and hoped that in this way a few cents would work their way into your account. Do you know if it worked? I don't get a lot of stuff, but I figure every little helps...

I also once tried the amazon thing, but it only makes me said since I need amazon .ca (where you can buy exactly nothing but books and dvds) and then I get jealous... so yeah, if you add that amazon I could click through...

Or i'll remember to go and donate on the front page... and then don't have to remember the amazon thing...

Is this meant to have been activated again? Getting random links (like "and"!) put into lots of posts the last few days...
