Throwing Up, allergy or illness?

We have had a couple nights in the past week where an hour or two after dinner DS threw up pretty much everything he had for dinner.

I'm wondering how often allergies present with vomiting?
Am I dealing with something other than an allergy?
Is this just one of those things with no explanation I'll ever figure out?

No fever and the vomiting stopped shortly after stomach contents were purged and he seemed ok after so I didn't panic and call the Dr. I've been logging what foods I've been offering so I can keep track of reactions but we are not an allergic family so I haven't been doing the only one food at a time for 4 day thing (would drive me nuts.)

DS is only just past 6 1/2 months old but has been grabbing food since before 5 months. Finally started putting him in the high chair and offering foods at dinner just before 6 months. He actually eats a surprising amount. He is breastfed and nurses very frequently though often quickly. He just cut his first bottom tooth yesterday.

Had chicken, squash, lima beans, and guava for dinner last night, the underlined foods were new to him. He threw up until only bile/stomach juice was coming up. I suspect the guava since I don't think he actually ate any lima bean and the squash we had again tonight and so far no reaction 3 hours later.

Just from my experience, The Boy's allergy to fish presented as vomiting. The specialist said that was very positive as the body was limiting contact with the allergen reducing the likelyhood of a more serious reaction. His vomit was very mucousy if that helps at all.

The Boy's allergy came out of the blue after being perfectly fine eating fish for more than six months so I wouldn't only look at new foods, I would look for a pattern - it took us a long, long time to identify the allergen as it just didn't occur to me to look at foods that hadn't caused a reaction in the past.

Once I was sure we were dealing with an allergy and I suspected what to then scratch tests were great for determining exactly what he was allergic to.

He is now 5 and allergy free so it is definitely possible to grow out of an allergy if you can avoid the allergen completely for long enough.

Good luck.

I don't know about allergies but just to add, my dd is 2 and has been eating for about 18 months but over the past few days she has been sick every night. She's been fine during the day but at night she's sick, so fed up of it.

What I'm trying to say is it might just be a bug that's going round or it could be an allergy. Maybe try keeping a food diary and see if there's anything that jumps out?

I do keep track of his feeding and what he eats so will hopefully be able to sort it out if a pattern shows up. Only threw up one more time since I posted about it.
