I don't think of coconut as a nut...but it says nut on the end...and I need to know if allergic people ever have trouble with coconut oil.

I'm pretty sure that technically coconut's aren't nuts. But then neither are peanuts (they are a legume) - MJ's best friend is anaphylactic to peanuts but fine with tree nuts, another friend is anaphylactic to tree nuts but fine with peanuts. I think the advice is that if someone is allergic to tree nuts (the most common ones to be allergic to are almonds and cashews) they should avoid coconut unless they've been tested and told it's ok.

I don't know much about this but a RL friend's partner's dad (sorry!) is allergic to two types of nuts - IIRC walnuts and brazil nuts. While pregnant amd bf my friend was advised to avoid all type of nuts and to assume that LO would be allergic too and avoid nuts during weaning.
What i'm trying to say is that AFAIK it's not that people are allergic to nuts in general, it's more specific than that so while some people may need to avoid Coconuts and derivatives of, others may be fine.

Hope that made some sort of sense!

No, very very few people are allergic to coconut and it's a separate allergy from nut allergy. My highly nut-allergic daughter gets practically bathed in coconut oil every day for her eczema. Her allergist said not to avoid coconut.
