Apparently breast milk tastes like.......

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

I must say that to me it does taste like ice cream. The good stuff that's just cream and egg yolks and sugar.

Havent sampled enough to think of a food substance it tastes like but I can say it's very sweet and creamy.

Am I the odd for really, really never wanting to taste my own breast milk? There's little that makes me.feel as weird as the idea of trying it!

My sisters thought it was super weird that I had tasted mine, but it wasn't like a conscious decision, it just gets on my fingers sometimes! I wouldn't want to live on it, it's way too sweet for my tastes. I wonder why human milk is so sweet, cows milk isn't and goats milk is practically salty...

It's sweet because the sugar is important for brain growth, which is the main job of baby humans. Baby cows are mostly bones and muscle so they don't need as much sugar. I guess that s why we love chocolate- our brains are growing  ?

Hehe I must be a genius then!

I think the taste probably changes if you've been eating strong flavoured foods, chillis, garlic etc. But the general taste is probably quite consistent. I remember watching a tv programme a while back where people were tasting BM products from different women and there was a clear difference in taste between the different women's BM. I reckon the taste differs in the same way as our individual smell differs. I've only been aware of mine tasting sweet from getting it on my fingers, but I ate a LOT of porridge and honey after A was born and the milk, and A, would smell of oats and honey.
