Milk before breakfast?

I should have mentioned this in my post a few days ago about bottles at 15 months. Little guy still has milk first thing in the morning before breakfast. It doesn't seem to make him less interested in breakfast; he usually gobbles that up as soon as I have it ready and these days I don't feel like I can get it ready quick enough for him. Do most babies eat breakfast before milk at this stage or have milk with it? I know I shouldn't think about "most babies" and it may not be the most important issue but I wonder. I've never tried giving him breakfast first thing and I'm not sure if he would like it.

I used to give TheWriggler his morning bottle, then have a shower and get dressed, then make us both breakfast. The day came when he made it very clear that I was taking too long in the shower and should blummin' well get out and give him breakfast so I decided maybe it was time to switch! I can't remember how old he was, sorry.

If you don't have this kind of gap between the two you could always just try it and see how it goes. You can always switch back and try again in a few weeks if he objects.

Not on bottles here but C has TWO BOOBS of milk at 13 month before we even get out of bed! Then we get dressed, teeth brushed etc and go downstairs to have some cereal...

With Cobster her morning milk feed was the last to go, she was breastfed until 23 months, had already dropped the bedtime breastfeed so had cows milk in the day if she asked for it but she would not go downstairs or do anything until she'd had a morning feed. Then one day she just woke up and said she wanted to go downstairs and play and that was that. So 23 months for us.

I think that around 16 months or so we simply stopped.going to get the milk in the morning. The puppy sometimes asks where his milk is in the morning but usually he's standing at the top of the stairs shouting for breakfast! We still give.him a cup of.milk with breakfast and he quite often has it all but it's alongside rather than before.these.days. It just happened, I don't think we. Thought long and hard about it.

L is 16 months and we still don't even do breakfast most mornings. Partially this is due to me being lazy about making exciting breakfasts, and partially due to lots of milk.

He has a big long lazy bf in bed every morning, and has never shown much interest in breakfast. Often he gets up with dh, who will offer him some cereal while he has his, but L usually only eats 2 or 3 pieces and that's it. Same with when I have my breakfast. We don't even bother putting him in the highchair to offer anything most mornings because he doesn't eat enough for it to be "worth it." Some days he'll eat a bit more if I wait until later in the morning or if it is oatmeal or fruit and yogurt, but that's still hit or miss.

I figure when he's ready he'll start asking for more, in the mean time I'm happy to be lazy in the mornings and let him have mostly just milk.

Courgette is another 'front loader' - a large proportion of her calories are from shredded wheat! We've always BF, then shower/clothes for me, then breakfast. She has milk on / with the cereal, and also in a cup if she wants it. She won't be put down when we go downstairs until she's in her chair with the shredded wheat (and, currently, a fork!) but not sure if that's hunger or nosiness to see what I'm doing.

Yesterday was her last morning BF (we're weaning) so we'll see if water suffices or if we need to bring milk up (which will be a pain - it's three floors away).

Interesting. It's nice to get a picture of how it has worked out/is working out for others. They are so different, aren't they? I think I'll try offering him breakfast first soon and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing!

My 3 year old still has milk (cows milk) as soon as we go down in the morning to keep her going till breakfast. Gives us a bit more time to get breakfast together.

Aaah, the joys of Bath townhouses, I remember it well. My first house was a five storey one on the Lower Bristol Road :D Hope it went well! If you do need milk could you bring it up in a thermos flask the night before?

Erik is 19 mo, and has a bf in bed before getting up every day. Still eats a lot for breakfast though, at least if it's porridge.

Bit of a first-world problem, to be fair! We've only got 4 though . Various options are being considered - we've got ice pack thingies intended for EBM which we used for overnight formula back in the day - I'm sure we could get a sippy cup in one of them.

unless you heat your house all night, cows milk will easily last from evening to morning! people have forgotten how long milk can be kept unchilled ever since the invention of the fridge! bonus: milk will be room temperature warm for drinking which was always just right for my two - they didnt like cold milk.

Hmmm. Interesting. Courgette's room is in our well insulated roof. Her window is always left open (unless we're both out, which is rare), with blind shut, and the heating in her room is off. It hasn't dropped below 20 degrees. Would that be pushing it?

15months here & I think there would be WW3 if I attempted to drop the morning bottle! I am greeted every morning not to a smile & a kiss But frantic signing for milk & pointing at the door. I bring a bottle up to bed with me & she comes in to my bed for morning bottle & snuggles. I hate heat on in my room at night so it just sits on my bedside table & it's fine.
If I'm lucky we get an hour in bed before we go downstairs & then it's straight to the highchair where I frantically try to distract her until her porridge is cooked
