How 2.5 yo came to love spinach...!

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

How 2.5 yo came to love spinach...!

She was pretending to be a tortoise (we'd been babysitting my parents' tortoise while they were on holiday and she's a big fan) and said that tortoises like to eat leaves...she then ate her way through a big handful of baby leaf spinach!!! :D

Dh and I now considering what other animals may be inspirational from an eating point of view!!

Badger will eat anything that comes out of our garden, so of course I take sneaky advantage and tell her pretty much everything on her plate came out of our garden (to be fair, this time of year it mostly has). The other night we were eating at PILs and she told everyone that Mommy grew the hamburgers (that FIL grilled) in her garden.

I've had rather amusing and unexpected success in a similar vein with the help of Remy the rat from Ratatouille! Bookworm has been in the "I want my food apart" stage for ages, but when he refused a pasta salad recently on the grounds that he didn't like everything together, I reminded him of how Remy says to his brother that tastes of different foods mix together to make new, exciting tastes. And would you believe it, he picked up a fork (he had been picking a couple of bits out with his fingers up to that point) and began shovelling it in, everything together!! Good old Remy... He might just be my new best friend!

See, he's way better at being 3 than I am, I have no imagination!

Love that girl. Not long now before you can enroll her in 4H and she can grow the hamburgers. And go you growing so much veg. :)
