Nutella - Good or Bad?

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

If I told you that it is referred to as "chocolate on a spoon" in this house, would that answer your question?

It's bad. Of course it's bad. In the same way a snickers is bad. Of course a few nuts makes it marginally better than if it didn't have them but let's be honest, it's not the most nutritious! However, we do have it! Like lots of people have said, it goes far too quickly so we rarely buy it. Mind you, as I'm pregnant it's pretty much a staple but it lasts longer in the long run as I reaalllllyy fancy it or reeaaallly don't.
Midge loves it but she knows it's not an everyday thing (although jam/ honey are....) and she gets a meagre scraping of it whereas mine dribbles and oozes off the toast!
Fwiw, I have to have it with salted butter/ spread underneath and a glass of orange juice. That is, when I'm not eating it off a spoon....

Elodie has it once or twice a week on brown toast for breakfast. I don;t see that it is so much worse than jam. I don;t think that there is any nutritional benefits to jam, and she won;t have that on brown toast.

I just have to exercise self- control. And Elodie has told me many times when it has been out that i am very naughty for licking the knife ....

The Traidcraft one is much nicer. So much nicer that no-one else gets to have any except me.

Oooh, I need to use up a jar that we have open in the cupboard and that sounds like a good way of getting rid of it. The kids and I don't really like it...

Sorry, this does not commute? Anyway all this talk of nutella is not good for a pregnant lady, I think I'll have to add it to the shopping list for DH this evening...

My dh gets through a 750g jar in no time and then puts it back in the cupboard empty so I think there is still some left.

H has it occasionally but doesn't freak out if we don't have it for weeks. I like it spread on homemade banana loaf - mmmmmmm!

Stop it! This thread is almost as bad as the malteser fridge cake one. DH did buy me a box of Guylian at the supermarket though so I'm doing OK at the moment.

I don't really have an opinion as we can't get it here (lucky to find jam sometimes!) but I did just see a recipe for nutella cookies... it also has oats so it must be good for you

This may shock some of you but a jar of nutella lasts months in this house. Dh is the one that gives it to the children, I rarely remember we have it. A bar of cadbury chocolate is gone in seconds but nutella really doesn't interest me.

You're right, S_N, I am stunned by that statement!

We have a 'weekends only' rule on Nutella. The upshot is that the kids often forget it is there even on a Sunday morning.
