Not taking in liquids at all now!

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

Not taking in liquids at all now!

Postby MeganMom » 08 Jun 2012, 02:30

So within the last couple weeks I have stopped sending momma's milk to daycare with MunchieMan. He was drinking some coconut milk, water, almond milk, etc. from sippy cups, but now he won't really drink much at all! He still nurses 4-5 days a week but only a couple times on the days I work. Obviously I can't make him drink, but am not sure if that is okay or not or what to do! He eats like a maniac. But my husband and sitter can't get him to take in any fluids unless it is my milk. Any thoughts?

Sory, not sure I have any great advice but I remember when DS didn't drink anything due to illness, I got him interested in fluids again by adding a very, very small amount of fresh apple juice to his water, I also did the same with orange juice. I hope its a phase that will pass quickly for you.

I know when it's really warm my SIL gives her DD ice lollies (sugar free) which she likes over liquid.

Give him ice? I just got a fish-shaped ice cube tray from Ikea yesterday and T has been eating fish ice cubes all day - I'm sure she got far more water that way than if she'd had to drink it.

Jelly and melons are a good way to get liquid into a reluctant drinker.

My daughter doesn't drink anything either. Makes me terrified of her weaning. When my supply dropped for awhile recently she started peeing only 4x in 24 hours. I tried mango juice with no luck, and she hates ice. At least I have my supply back for now.

Eating fruit at every meal is my solution (she'll eat any kind), and apparently that's also what my mom did when I was a toddler. I was the same way and she weaned me at a year.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! The sitter seems to think he is getting enough- about 6-8 ounces of actual liquids, plus yogurt, fruit, etc. Maybe I was just worrying too much because with the bottles he was getting 12 ounces of just milk! Anyway, the transition away from bottles went pretty smoothly, he didn't even seem to care, and seems to be doing okay with the sippy cup now- all these crazy phases!! Thanks to all the suggestions- I will try the ice, too!
