A cheap no sugar low salt peanut butter

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

A cheap no sugar low salt peanut butter

Hi

This is going to make sound very obessive _ ( which I am  ) but after lable reading peanut butter jars for ages yesterday ( my 2.5yr old has decided it is his favourite thing ever and I beleive it has some good nutrients in it????) the other day I discovered that Tesco's wholenut peanut butter seems to have no added sugar and only 0.7g of salt per 100g which it states it is trace per 15g serving. I know the Whole Earth and the own brand organic ones tend not have sugar in and only around 1g of salt per 100 but this one only costs £1.23 for a 340g jar compared with £2.68 for the Whole earth. It is not organic though.

I have a bit of a reputation on here for being anti-organic so please bear that in mind when I say that I really wouldn't worry about the fact the Tesco one isn't organic. :D

The Sainsbury's Organic one has no added sugar and had the lowest salt when I was obsessed about such things so that is probably a good option. Unless you are worried about palm oil of course. You could make your own, but I'm not sure what the relative costs would be, I suspect it might be slightly more expensive unless you can get basic/everyday range unsalted peanuts.

It is very difficult to get unsealed peanuts for a reasonable price in this country, but making b is easy!

Suma peanut butter is made with peanuts. Just peanuts. No added oil. No added salt & definitely no added sugar. Just peanuts. I think they roast them first!

I buy it because it tastes better...I was happy with my kids having peanut butter on toast from 6 months as they never had much. I buy it at a local deli, but I believe you can get it from amazon!

And if you have a food processor and are so inclined, peanut butter is easy to make! Take your roasted peanuts, toss 'em into the processor, blend away. Add a little oil at a time if it's too thick. Good stuff!

Agree with Teakettle. It takes no time at all. If you can't get hold of roasted unsalted peanuts, buy the salted ones and rinse the salt off under the tap before you whizz them.

Holland and barratt do a big tub which is just ground peanuts. Downside is oil seperates out and needs a jolly good mix when you first open it to get the oil back into it but then it usu stays in place ok.
