How much food is too much?

Oh, we're done with all that vegetable-steaming and mess, our children are cutlery-wielding, spaghetti-chomping angels... at least some of the time.

How much food is too much?

Postby claireec » 28 Apr 2012, 15:32

During the week, T has about 7 different "meals" each day and I'm worried I am offering too much food but he usually eats it all.
7am in the car on way to nursery, fruit and malt loaf
8am at nursery, cereal
mid morning at nursery, snack (toast and fruit or something)
12-ish lunch at nursery (2 courses - eg roast chicken and then a pudding)
3.30pm tea at nursery (eg potato wedges and dips)
6pm in car on way home, fruit, biscuit, cheese
7pm-ish at home, dinner (but not always, depends if he asks)

When we are at home over the weekends, he eats whenever we do and also has snacks throughout the day (Fruit, a biscuit)

To be fair, he is not a chubby toddler, really rather lean (quite strong....) and of average weight. He is constantly on the go all day so I think he burns off a lot of energy. BUT I don't want him to end up with a weight problem in future years because i offered too much food.

Will he cut back naturally?

TheWriggler has basically the same amount of food a day as T. I tend not to worry as he'll refuse a meal (usually tea at our house, frustratingly) if he's not hungry. And he'll let us know if he's hungry too.
