Cinnamon on rice cakes? Now there's a way to get T to eat all these rice cakes I bought and can't get her to eat! Just as it is or with butter or what?

Saw this in DH's work canteen menu for the week and thought of this thread :D

"Shepherds Pie
Minced lamb & vegetables cooked with fresh herbs & a pinch of cinnamon, topped with mashed potato & melted cheddar cheese"

I learned about cinnamon (and nutmeg) in savory dishes when I started making moussaka. Yum!

A quick rummage through my baking cupboard and I've found 3pots o cinnamon and a pot o nutmeg..... :D

Just sprinkle on as is!

I found a great recipe at Christmas time for some meatball thing they apparently eat in Palestine around Christmas. Minced lamb with nutmeg, cinnamon and onions. Cooked in tomato sauce with rice cooked in the pot as well. Was supposed to be soup but I made it be thicker and more, so it was meatballs, sauce and rice. So yummy!

I love cinnamon! Used to always have porridge, chopped up steamed apple and cinnamon for breakfast and it was yum, I also put it in my musakka and it is absolutely lush!! Ive heard that it speeds up your metabolism aswell, and as for turmeric, I remember when I had really bad, swollen ezcema on my hand, my DF went looking for stuff he could make it better with and came in with a bowl of turmeric in water for me to sit my hand in, makes sense that it's anti-inflammatory!! x

My mother made tomato sauce w/ cinnamon & cloves last night - not too bad - cloves to reduce acidity, apparently.

Mmm, cloves in tomato sauce sounds good - never thought of that. Never really know what to do with cloves. Whole or ground?

I hope so because I eat a lot of it too! I know I am a lot bigger than her but I am sure it's a harmless spice.

ground. oh, and i saw in the blw cookbook about putting whole cloves into the butter when frying cinnamon apples - will try that next

I love this thread :)

We put cinnamon on porridge too, yum. I call it Christmas porridge :)

Another random question, does anyone have any tips for getting turmeric stains off skin ?
My mum had a bit of a turmeric incident and her poor hands are bright yellow ...

Coraline, I'd imagine that your mum's hands restored to their normal colour? IIRC they'd just go with time, usually 3 days or so, depending on how heavy the staining is. Found this link which basically says the same thing, but apparently you could speed up the process by rubbing in oils in.

Made rutabaga fries w/ olive oil, cumin, sweet paprika, cinnamon, salt. surprisingly yum!
