About to Start, Worried About Iron Levels

Postby MonsterMunching » 16 Sep 2016, 07:02

Hi,

I'm about to start BLW in the next week or so, but I'm worried about the amount of information I've found about babies of 6 months needing a lot of iron, and maybe those that are BLW don't get enough. Do I need to worry about this so much? Can anyone give me some tips on how to ensure I get enough iron into my baby, please? Should I give a cereal like Weetabix each day as well as other foods?
Thanks!

The short version is you don't need to worry. There is a wealth of info in the forum archives if you search for Iron in the box at the top right. :)

Thank you! I did try and do a search before posting yesterday butI couldn't seem to find a search box. I must have been looking in the wrong place as I've spotted it straight away today.

Another short answer is that you probably don't need to worry, as such, if you are conscious of offering iron-rich foods when appropriate. So yeah, if your baby likes wheatabix, great, have wheatabix for breakfast. If not, then don't stress about trying to force them to eat wheatabix. There's lots of other things with iron.
One of my favourites, one of my best finds was tahini. It's full of iron and other goodness. A spoonful of tahini in our porridge is the way we take it.

Oh, also:
Wheatabix dries hard as cement, so take care to wipe it up before it dries!
I don't think the search function is available if you're logged out. That might explain why you couldn't find it the first time. :)

Thanks for the replies! That's eased my mind a bit. Note taken on the dried on stuff! And great tip on the Tahini!
