How long does it take for babies to learn to chew

Postby Emmy » 08 Jul 2016, 12:10

Hi there,

We've been doing BLW for a couple of weeks now, most food still ending up back out of my babies mouth at the moment.
How long roughly before they learn to chew and swallow the food are we finding?

Thanks

It can be really variable from baby to baby. Some get it right away, many it seems to "click" around 9 or 10 months, and others don't "get it" until much later. My son didn't stop spitting out chunks of food until after he was a year old.

Remember that right now it is all about learning and exploring food. The tastes, textures, smells are all new and any type of exploring is great and sets the foundation for future eating. Your lo doesn't know yet that food will fill their tummy, and milk will still provide all the nutrition they need for a long time.
