How long to leave food?

How long do you leave food down for them or how long do you give them before you take it away? I've tried to have joint meals but realised we're so used to eating very quickly and then clearing up and getting on with things I don't think the baby is getting long enough to try the foods. e.g. yesterday I had toast, gave her a few strips, but I'd finished mine in 30 secs and wasn't sure how long to wait for her to mush hers about?

I found thinking about it as a fun game / activity helped. If I were going to put out a group of toys (or whatever), how long would I leave it until I packed it away? Generally, I'd leave it until I was fed up, she was bored/tired/hungry etc, or we needed to be somewhere else.

So I applied the same principal to eating. If I was OK, she was having fun, and we didn't need to be somewhere else, the food stayed out. If not, it didn't.
