Chunks of food in baby's stools

Postby Zozja83 » 07 Nov 2015, 15:15

Hi all! So I know the AAP recommends waiting until 6 months before introducing solids, however I started 2 weeks early just because my DD was super interested, trying to grab food that I was eating, and she showed all the other cues. Sitting up, coordinated grabbing, growth spurt, etc. I've introduced her to banana and avocado. Tried carrot and she wasn't interested. I find chunks of undigested avocado in her stool and I'm worried that means her system is not ready for food yet :( Is that the case? I'm stressed I've messed up her little system. TIA!

Nope. Undigested food is totally normal. Raisins reinflate :D

With purée, you can't really see that it goes straight through at first!

And you'll get black strings from the banana so don't panic about worms if you see them!

Food chunks in poo is a good sign that she's actually eating so well done to your LO! You'll start finding her poo very interesting... :)

As the others said, it's totally normal at the start. Eventually more will be digested, and then the poop gets really really vile.

I kind of want to give the kid some raisins now...

Just so you know, I still find whole sweetcorn and peas and my little one is not so little anymore at 20 months! She just swallows food sometimes without chewing I think :)
