Chunks of carrot in diaper

Postby sticksandbugs » 28 Oct 2010, 13:39

This morning when I changed my son, he had big (bigger than 1/4 in) chunks of carrot in his diaper. It looks as if he bit chunks off and swallowed them whole, and they didn't get digested at all. He was up a lot last night crying and difficult to settle, and I put it down to a cold + teething, but now I'm worried that he had stomach pains because of these big carrot pieces. Has anybody else seen this?
Oh, and he's 8 months old, and we've been BLW for 2 months.
Thanks
Sara

It's quite common for things to come out the same as they go in for quite a while - rehydrated raisins are a sight to behold :D - as it takes a while for the gut to learn to digest things. Puree comes out the same as it goes in but you don't notice  Try not to worry!
Mummy to M - September 1998, D - October 2007, and E - May 2010. All BF, cloth nappies, and carried in the same sling, not sure BLW existed in the 90s though!

We only stopped seeing recognisable chunks of food in Mim's nappies after her molars came through. :D

Thanks everyone, that's reassuring! And I think I'll avoid raisins for the time being, carrots are traumatic enough :)

You should see peas...I freaked out at all these little round balls, thought he had some kind of bug (literally) until I remembered he'd shovelled in the sweet peas at summer the night before. Amazing what you see as a mommy :)

spinach comes through here...looks like seaweed in the mud.

I find if i give her dried apricots and other fiber-heavy snacks, her poop comes out as a nice neat ball and I don't have to look at it :)
