London baby

This is embarrassing as I was at uni in London but my brain has gone to mush since then!

We are in London this weekend for a wedding and hoping not to rush home on Sunday so hit me with ideas of things to do! We are staying near Faringdon/St Paul's. I was thinking just getting over to the river & walking down the south bank or something but not if its bad weather.

Yes. The south bank is brilliant. There's a great play area for bigger ones by the London eye and there's Archbishop's Park opposite St Thomas' hospital, which is brilliant.

Vauxhall City Farm is small but cute (funnily enough, at Vauxhall), Coram's Field's is at Russel Sq for a good and different playground.

In the wet, we would head to the usual suspects of museums but our favourite is the Horniman in South London. It's got a cute and small aquarium, currently an ok dinosaur (paid for) exhibition, a great music room with some hands on stuff and a lovely natural history section.

The Olympic Park at Stratford is amazing.
Transport Museum. I don't like it much but many do, including my kids!

I'll return if I think of fun things to do or if I see adverts for awesome local things happening. Travel safely.

We went up Tower Bridge which was surprisingly un-busy, not too expensive by London tourist attraction standards, and we all really enjoyed.

Sorry I didn't come back to this sooner. Those are awesome ideas, thank you.

Did I imagine it or do under fives travel free on tubes etc?

You have to pay for over 5? That's a bit harsh isn't it?

I googled and it seems complicated. Different rules for different age groups on different services. I'm pretty sure under 16 is free on trains, trams and buses here.

I defer to you on this - we go to London often but don't live there any more. But I think there is a point where it's still free for kids who have a pass (because they live in town), but visitors have to pay.
Actual trains are free for under 5s. Also local buses outside London.

I had a look on tfl site & under 11s are free on buses& trams but only on tubes if an adult has a travel card or visitor oyster. Both of which got £12+ it seems & they only need to do a single journey in zone 1 so prob not worth buying. Apparently each adult can take up to 4 kids free with them though!
