What's your favourite drink?

Postby Kanga » 10 Mar 2016, 21:13

Alcoholic I mean?

I like a glass of wine or cider but dh will sometimes have a sloe gin/amaretto and I'm trying to find something similar to drink. Save me opening a whole bottle of wine ;)

I'm with your dh (but could help you with your bottle of wine, or cider for that matter!). Looking forward to building up my G&T (with lime not lemon) intake when I've finished bf'ing.

My first thought was sparkling water. Pathetic huh?

I love a good G and t or a really good quality vodka, ice cold and neat.
On our honeymoon in Mexico I taught myself to like good quality tequila too.

Well yes, tea is my usual go to. Maybe I should just embrace that rather than trying to find something new!!

Pastis, or dry white vermouth. Plenty of ice. Makes me think of holidays and summer weather.

I've knocked booze on the head, as a general rule. But a nice G&T is welcome once in a blue moon. And if friends come over, I'll make mojitos. Might seem like a fuss, but if I'm going to have a drink, I want to enjoy it. I'd rather have a few squares of dark chocolate, though.

I would usually go for wine but at home I'm the only one that drinks it so it takes me too long to get through a bottle. Unless we have friends over.

I did just discover black cherry flavoured hard lemonade which I now love. I has a really nice glass of Sangria when we were out for dinner the other week, but that's something I'd never do at home.

I like red wine or real ale. For a shorter drink I do enjoy a port, either neat or with s slash of lemonade.

Having read the other comments I'm also fancying a G&T and a mojito. I may have to revise my currently very dull plans for this evening!

You could homemade gooseberry vodka. We always have some of that in the cupboard and it's amazing.

Other than that, dark rum and ginger beer (and run a slice of lime around the rim of the glass before squeezing it in).

Port? Sherry?

Ooh, I love port. Mmmm.
Dessert wine too.

Oh. Alcoholic. (one of "those" who don't read the OP properly!!!)

Back in my drinking days:
Pre-dinner - sparkling wine. This moved into cocktails - adding cointreau, melon liquors or a cherry one whose recipe I can't quite remember.
Or Gin and OJ.
Move onto wine during dinner.
Then spiced or golden rum or whisky and coke.
Or more cocktails!
Blue Lady (equal gin, blue curacao and lemon juice in a sugar encrusted glass! Yum!)
Long Island Iced Tea - fall over juice
Whisky Mac in winter or if ill
Or whatever I decided to mix that evening. Only for 3 nights a week!!!
If it was a dinner party, then Port or Brammle - which is whisky steeped in bramble berries and totally delicious!!!

(now you realise why I don't drink any more!!!!!)

I now drink water, fizzy or flat, orange squash or tea. Or non-alcoholic beer.

I've somehow got into the habit of having a drink every night. A habit I need to get out of, especially after reading about the links between alcohol and cancer. The safest limit is zero apparently. Sorry, Kanga, I digress, I'm raining on your thread! Cointreau and mineral water, maybe with a splash of lime has been my drink of the summer.

What flavours do you like? Will you always have mixers handy? I'm not that fussed on mixers so just have nea, or with s splash of water or with ice if I have any - whisky (there are so many then go and taste some before ruling it out - my preference is a peaty Islay malt), sambuca (black sambuca a is fab too - more liquorice than aniseed), Cointreau if I fancy something sweeter. I stick screw top white wine in the fridge if I don't finish it and use in risottos etc. I usually drink wine or beer at home - love Innis & Gunn ales. Hardly ever do cocktails at home anymore. You get mini bottles of champers in Home Bargains if you want fizz but don't want to waste it.
