Cut on lip gone white

Postby mamapup » 09 Feb 2016, 19:43

Little Croc fell whilst climbing and rocking on a chair the other day. She cut her lip (she's always cutting her lip when climbing and falling) but the cut has gone white. Anyone seen this? Should we take her to GP? Or anyone got a home remedy? I assume that it's not great to see a lip go white.

This morning I thought it was just a scab but now I'm not so sure.

Not heard of that before...has Dr Google got any advice or are you steering clear of that?

Not just the dead edges of the skin? If not, (is it white inside the cut?) maybe infected, I hate dragging them to the Drs but maybe you should get it checked.

I looked at Dr. Google, and there doesn't seem to be any consensus. Some sites said it's part of the normal healing process, other sites said you should get it checked by a doctor. So yeah, maybe best to go to the doctor, just in case.
The most frequent advice was to rinse with warm salt water a few times a day, if you can get her to do that, until you are able to see the doctor.

Thanks. The lack of consensus was my reason for coming here to ask. She says it doesn't hurt. I'll check her this morning and then bathe in salt water if it's still white.

Argh, why can't kids just not fall off stuff?

Is the white on the inside of the mouth or the outside?? If it's on the inside, then Pickles split lips have always gone white on the inside of her mouth and have healed just fine.

I think this can be normal if it is somewhere kind of wet. I've had cute go white if you soak in the bath or shower for a long time too.

I'd be more worried if it went extra red and was painful or itchy, or if it started getting yellow and crusty.

Don't even regular scabs turn white when they get wet?
