three in the back

So, we've finally got round to testing out the baby car seat which someone gave us, alongside our two high-backed booster seats in the back of our car (Skoda Octavia) and, guess what, they don't fit! Aaaggh. I know there've been posts about this before, but I just wondered if there was much variability in width of the car seats themselves? Would much rather buy new seats than a new car. Particularly in the booster seats - as they will have to fit with the next stage baby seat which is likely to be even tighter as it's wide at the back. Anyone know?

We have a reasonable size MPV, but a massive toddler seat. So we have two Britax Isofit seats for the big kids, which are slimmer in the seat than many. Also, watch out for the modern high back boosters with airbags in the headrests - great idea, but makes them as wide as buses.

Oh, the other consideration I had was the ability to get hands down between the seats to fasten the seatbelt, both on the boosters and around the baby seat if it uses the belt. And if it doesn't use the belt and has a base instead, the base can also get in the way of reaching the 'clickers'. We had to make sure that the booster seats are next to each other on the side of the car where there are two 'clickers' together, IYSWIYM?
