Where to sell a sling and for how much?

Postby Cofa's Tree » 22 Jul 2016, 15:54

If anyone has recently sold a sling, where did you sell it and how much did you ask for it in relation to original cost?

I have a Manduca that we used for D from 1 year onwards, but this was too big for little prem L at birth so I bought an NCT Close Caboo sling which has been absolutely brilliant. But now she's nine months, she (and me) is probably ready to graduate to the Manduca. The Caboo has been used virtually every school day but is in good used condition - no fraying or stains but some bobbling. I paid £37 for it from new and I have the box and instructions. So, any suggestions over where to sell it? eBay or would a more specialised site/fb group be better? I was thinking for eBay £20 plus £5pp - is that too much? Any thoughts/experience welcome!

I sold my Manduca for £60 or £65 (can't remember exactly) last year. It was in good but used condition - a bit faded from washing etc. That seemed to be the going rate when I looked on eBay etc. I sold through my local sling meet Facebook group, but I didn't really advertise - more replied to anyone who was looking for similar (I wasn't in any particular rush to sell). Have you got a local group like that?

I've sold my slings on the Irish Babywearing FSOT facebook page. I'm sure there's something similar in the UK, if not tons of them! We don't use eBay much over here, so can't advise on that.
The recommendations here (actually, the rules on the FB page) are that your selling price includes postage and paypal fees. They say that you should always use registered post and that the buyers should send the money via paypal as "goods and services". Both of these things protect both the buyer and seller, but both cost a little extra.

I don't know what the low end UK FSOT groups are, but over here there are some close caboos listed at $80 which don't seem to be moving. It's a buyer's market at the moment as there are so many options but £25 all in sounds reasonable to me.

Thanks all. Sold it for £30 all in on an affordable slings fb group. Thanks for the advice!

I know! And someone else has asked for it if the first person doesn't have it!
