Family pop-up or blow-up tent?

Postby BacktoSaz » 27 Jun 2014, 16:44

Has anybody got a family (4 people) pop-up or blow-up tent? We need to buy a family tent, but are put off by how long most tents take to pitch which is a real faff if you are only going for 1 night.

Get a bell tent! Ours takes 10-15 minutes to pitch.

A friend of mine woks for a camping company, she trialled an inflatable tent last year and said it was great and very secure. Although she said shes not sure she would pay the price for one.

We borrowed a friends Decathlon pop-up tent recently, whilst waiting for our Bell Tent to arrive.

Both go up quickly. Both can be put up with one person. Getting the pop-up down is more of a knack (although Youtube shows that one person can do it).

The Decathlon one was like this http://www.decathlon.co.uk/seconds-fami ... 45573.html
It is quite a bit cheaper than a cotton canvas Bell Tent. Not as nice to be in as a Bell Tent. Depends how much you'll camp I guess....

We have a quechua pop up tent. It's smaller than the one linked above, only one bedroom and only just big enough for DH to stand in living area, but for the kind of camping we usually do its been fantastic. Last summer I got it up on my own with a 4 and 2 year old in tow. If you're only doing 1/2 nights and can get a good deal I'd definitely recommend, although if we were doing longer/spending more time on site we might want a bit more space.

(There is quite a knack to them, the second time we used it we managed to get the bits tangled and it took far longer to put up than our old tent! We have improved our technique now and keep a good hold when releasing :-) )

I know Aitch is quite partial to the Quechua pop up tents. She had/has one for sleeping and one for the other stuff...

We have the Quechua tent linked above- only used it for 2 nights so far, but was great. I hope we get it up and down as easily every week time.
