Tent bought now what?

Postby Binkie » 10 Mar 2014, 15:32

Yesterday we threw caution to the wind and bought ourselves a massive tent :D We are planning on being fair weather weekend campers however I am wondering what we need to buy to be comfortable. So far I have come up with:

Beds - air or SIM?
Bedding - sleeping bags or duvets?
Table and chairs
Lighting - Torches/lanterns
Something to cook on - Cobb?
Cool box
Plates, bowls, cutlery, cups
Ikea blue bag for shoes etc

Now what else should I be thinking of? We travel often so have games, toys, books etc all organised it is more the practical things that will make camping comfortable.

I am torn between getting things that require electricity and going for the whole rustic (ish)experience

About to do bedtime do just a quick bit of advice - although air mattresses are comfy, you will get cold as the air in the mattress picks up the ground temp. Make sure you insulate well with blankets on top.

My most comfortable camping has been with a big airbed, it inflated about a foot off the ground and was so comfy.

You can get sleeping bags that are singles but they can be zipped together to make a double.

Stereo? with and ipod dock.

Depending on the campsite maybe a washing up bowl.
Kettle/saucepans etc
Paddling pool (doubles up as a bath for our Los!!)
Dustpan and brush (I find I need it as Los go into tent with grassy feet)

Will keep thinking and come back if need be!

We used to have air beds and I was always cold or they deflated a bit each night. Now we have 5cm SIMs (from Aldi) with a foam roll mat underneath and I am toasty warm, plus they are easier to balance if you need to stand on them and better for kids to play on. We use sleeping bags. Dd has a junior one, but full size is fine for kids really. When they were much younger we took a travel cot and even our antilop highchair so we had somewhere that contained them when needed! I have an extensive camping list, but it's on the pc, which i rarely use. could pm at some point if it would help.

Oh thank you for the lists! There are so many things to think about and plan!

If there are particular models/brands that people would recommend I would love to hear about them as we really are starting from scratch :D
