Beach activities in bad weather?

Postby blossom » 13 Jun 2012, 20:46

We're caravanning at the beach this weekend and the weather doesn't look promising.
Has anyone got any good beach or caravan activities for cold or wet weather?
I was thinking along the lines of treasure hunts, toasting marshmallows, making shell/sand pictures, going on a torch walk, scavenger hunts starting with different letters etc

Any ideas?
Or even general ideas for making it a fun holiday even though the weather's not going to cooperate?

We camped on the south coast in the rain last year and had a great day taking the train to bornemouth and spent hours in a museum with a lovely cafe, kiddie reading area (i may have napped there ) and kids craft activities.

We're camping too this weekend - you're not going to Kent, are you?!

Ah, we'll be on the isle of sheppey for a friend's wedding so some way away from you :( I suppose it would've been too much of a coincidence to have a BLWer going to a wedding where we only know the bride!

We certainly are! I really hope it's ok - an afternoon in a field with a bbq doesn't sound much fun if it isnt!

Well we had an amazing time there. The weather was too windy for the beach, although we did try!
Plan for a day in nearby Rye. It's stunning. We spent lots of time enjoying the shops, you're spoiled for choice with places for lunch and there are some nice old fashioned sweet shops. There's also a lovely play area that you can see from the lookout at the bottom of the high street.
On our way back we visited bodiam castle. There's a reasonably priced gift shop at the entrance and the pub across the road is absolutely superb. If it's a nice day it has the most amazing view from outside, plenty of space to run around.
Where are you staying?

Camber is horrible in the wind.
We went into rye for a cup of tea and wonder. Battle has a museum, or Hastings (aquarium).

Thanks guys.

We are camping at park resorts....we are more in the woods open fire campers then resorts so I'm a little bit dreading that part...although I hope there will be kids stuff and the beach (fingers crossed) is super close.

Will definitely check out rye and I think there is a steam train line nearby too that I need to look up.

We were planning on taking bikes....do you know if there are things near enough to cycle to? (ie not too long and not major roads cos the kids will be on the back)

We should of been in our camper but it has an unexpected problem so will be in the tent now so been busy sorting out beds.....both boys will finish up with us for sure so our tiny blow up wasn't gonna cut it!!
