Non-tacky stocking filler ideas?

Oh look, it's broadly a place to talk about special occasions, party tips and to swap present ideas but let's be perfectly honest, this forum is here because I want to get excited about CHRIIIIIISTMAS from about June onwards.

Non-tacky stocking filler ideas?

Postby sabrina fair » 31 Oct 2015, 09:07

I can't believe I'm planning this already but I want to avoid a last minute tack-fest for the stockings and look out for discounts. So...your ideas please for 4 and 2 year olds. So far I have:

- bubble bath
- big magnet for monkeyboy (he's obsessed!)
- clothes of some kind they'll need anyway...socks, tops...
- apple, satsuma, chocolate coins - obviously!
- playmobil figure/Lego mini-pack thing?
- wind-up toy or similar

Any other ideas? They'll be getting loads of stuff we don't have room for at Christmas anyway so I mainly want things they either need or will really love.

Does it have to fit in the stocking?

Ours are a bit younger but getting:
SM - aged 3, Wooden cake/biscuit set all individually wrapped to bulk it out
CM - aged 18 months, happyland fairies set with fairy car and house bought second hand

Both
A book
Socks/pants
Satsuma
Choc coins probably

Possibly some other little bits from other family. Most of that will fit in their stockings but not books and not CMs fairy house.

Stickers are the bane of my life atm. SM got so many for her birthday they're always stuck to everything.

Izbiz is getting a crystal growing tree thingy, spoke beads for his new bike, and some wiggly eyes, all from Tiger. It's such a great shop for cheap, non-tacky stuff (and plenty of tack too...). Otherwise, just socks and edibles. We are having a toy-free Christmas this year - there is enough coloured plastic in the house already.

For everyone (adults included) we do socks, book, stationary/craft item, toiletries item, sweets/chocolate, an item linked to a personal interest, satsuma, chocolate coins, puzzle/game and I can't remember the 10th item!

we just did the crystal tree with our kids, they're brilliant.

No comment on stockings as I haven't got that far in thinking about stuff yet.

Thanks lovelies, very useful! We've got craft stuff coming out of our ears so can't face more of that (though would've been great idea otherwise) - bet they'd love slinkies though, I'll definitely look out for those. Also going to look into the crystal trees...sounds very clangers!

I remember loving getting pretty polished stones in my stocking . . . but then again, my dad is a geology buff!
Saurus (April 2012) wants to open all the cupboards to see the pipes.
Zilla (December 2013) is unstoppable. And really likes pizza.
Turtle (November 2015) isn't cute yet, but he's working on it.
And Mia and Oreo are my emotional support cats.

little notebooks and pencils or other mark-makers. Even if they've got lots already, keeps them occupied for a bit on Christmas morning. We did glittery pens, so they were a bit special. Though maybe not for a 2-yr old?

I'm totally already planning this!

So far Moo is getting: a bubble timer, light up bath toy/ fan (all from www.cheapdisabilityaids.com they have some fun stuff, I'm resisting a bubble tower!), Sarah & Duck toy, ELC tape measure, bracelets, and the obligatory orange and coins.
