Advent Activities 2014 - what did you do?

Oh look, it's broadly a place to talk about special occasions, party tips and to swap present ideas but let's be perfectly honest, this forum is here because I want to get excited about CHRIIIIIISTMAS from about June onwards.

Advent Activities 2014 - what did you do?

Postby pirate_han » 01 Dec 2014, 19:23

So what did you do today? We would usually have had decorating the tree but we did it yesterday!

Ours was making Christmas decorations for the g-rents at our nearby kids art cafe. Belle painted ceramic tree decorations for my Dad and FIL and decoupaged (sp?) a photo frame for my Mum; I'll put a photo of her in it.

That was our official one anyway but we've also had a baking day and made our cranberry sauce for Christmas dinner, and mince pies and Christmas mini muffins for DH to take into work this week.

Advent calendars and fish and chips tea out. Not very inspiring but it was all we could manage after a day at school/nursery.

We made play dough. We kept it a snow-like white with glitter in and got out the Christmas cookie cutters. We also pretended it was ice cream. Monkeyboy loved it and we played for more than an hour during Squidge's nap.

A later activity is going to use the same play dough but as a 'snowman factory'.

We made gingerbread cookies. Thinking of inviting some little friends over later this week but also thinking that sounds kind of crazy. We'll see.

We went on a pine cone and holly hunt in the wood. A bit of an easy one as we were at The Singing Kettle last night and had a fish supper after so we were all a bit knackered. It was fun though!

Dylan and Elsie wrote their letters to Father Christmas. Martha hasn't done here yet, as she was at the theatre.

Sleep under a Christmas duvet yesterday and feed the birds today. The duvet was a massive hit!

Decorated our cookies with a friend today. P probably could've spent all morning decorating but his friend lost interest. I think I need to do more crafts with this boy.

We made Christmas cards for the g-rents. Green triangle on a red card, decorated with paint fingerprints to resemble a Christmas tree.

Tried to make cards today but it wasn't a success. He didn't want to get his hands dirty so the thumbprint reindeer faces I suggested didn't go down well. So he did some very messy (barely legible) printing with some Christmas stamps, covered the whole thing with glitter glue and wrote his name across it all.

So, a win for the process, but it doesn't get me any closer to having any Christmas cards made! Ah well, we'll try again another day...
