A Simple Party Game Idea please....

Oh look, it's broadly a place to talk about special occasions, party tips and to swap present ideas but let's be perfectly honest, this forum is here because I want to get excited about CHRIIIIIISTMAS from about June onwards.

A Simple Party Game Idea please....

Postby Efficient_Edna » 04 Jan 2012, 22:22

OK so Abigail is 2 in..... two hours! But her party is on Saturday with about 8 or so little friends of the same age.

We've already had 2 NCT group parties and at both we did, no sorry, attempted to do, pass the parcel, which I just thought did not work at all. None of the toddlers "got" the idea of the game, they all wanted to open the parcel instead of passing it on, and some got upset when it was someone elses turn to unwrap. So I won't be doing that!

I am not really desperate to include any party games, with them being at this young age, but nevertheless, I was racking my brains in case I could come up with a game that is suitable and simple enough for just-2-year-olds. Any ideas? I don't even think they would get the idea of musical statues or anything like that. I am however, convinced that somebody on here will have a fabulous and ingenious game idea to give me!!!

Thanks.

Hmm 2 is difficult. I'd say e was about 2.5 before any games made sense to him.. The first one he "got" was "what's the time mr wolf?" but parents had to be involved...

I'd try musical bumps rather than statues. You don't need to be too organised, get the parents involved in pass the parcel and make sure there is a small gift in each layer (IKEA finger puppets are a good idea for that, or some kind of food). DH sang Old MacDonald at DD1's last two parties with puppets and did the wrong sound for each animal which the kids find hilarious, you don't need to do that (2 might still be a bit young) but a few action songs might go down well.

How about musical face pulling? As in when the music stops, everyone pulls a face/sticks their tongue out/similar. Or we've done pretending to animals when the music stops, the 'controller' tells the children which animal to be.

I thought of one - give each child a hunk of bread dough to shape, then bake them and let them eat the results. They'd probably need some help, but at 2 I'm guessing parents are staying.

I wouldn't even attempt party games at two...they all just played with finn's toys like a normal meet up. Maybe do some singing?

Sleeping bunnies? All the 2 year olds at our toddler group do that, plus lots of other action songs.
Thom May 07 and Kiera Sept 09 - I don't really have an excuse to be here still!!

I think so too.

I might get them to do the Hokey Cokey, and If You're Happy & You Know It or something like that.

Possibly stretch to a simple game along the lines of "lets see who can do the best impersonation of a x (lion/dog/sheep)" etc.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be too cringeworthy. :?

Hope it went well. Just been at yet another party at the soft play and one of the other Mums was really lovely and said how much she enjoyed DD1's very traditional party at home so it's definitely worthwhile!

Yes it went very well. Thanks to my lovely mum we had a bouncy castle which was the main attraction, but we switched it off for food/cake and then just did a couple of songs before switching it back on again. They all seemed to really enjoy themselves. I did too despite being run ragged. Thanks for asking.
