The Basic Wellness Thread

...because I never got anywhere near Optimum Wellness

So, I need to look after myself better. This isn't about losing weight (although I do have a little bit to lose) or just about fitness, it is about taking the time and prioritise keeping my body ticking over ok. As of tomorrow, I am pledging to:
- Do my knee exercises twice a day (as physio recommended for dodgy knee)
- Floss once per day
- Make sure I am eating my 5 a day (I think I usually do this but want to make sure)
- Drink more water (rather than mainlining tea and coffee all day).

More targets to follow next week once I've got those established.

Anyone in?

My pledges are (work allowing)
- run twice a week (currently on week 7 of C25K)
- kettlebells for strength 1 or 2 times a week
- eat more fruits and healthy snacks
- take a lunch instead of eating chips and gravy
- continue being as caffine free as I can
- drink more water and juice

I'm keen. I've been getting very stressed and anxious and generally exhausted lately and have started doing yoga in the mornings instead of more intense exercise, because I feel like it's more important right now to give myself a little bit more tlc and headspace, rather than always trying to push my limits.

I've also cut out most caffeine, except for my first cup if coffee in the morning, and at work now I drink lesbian tea all day (my favourites are the twinings blood orange and cranberry, and liquorice ones, and the pukka detox blend) which really helps keep my water consumption up.

Mostly I'm trying very hard to cut out sugar and junk. I have got myself into a really bad sugar craving habit, and indeed to snap myself out if it, so I'm trying to be quite strict with myself, although I am slipping up quite a bit still!

Oh good plan.

At the moment I am trying to:

*burn 100 calories/30 minutes on Wii Fit
*walk 10,000 steps (I walked all bloody day yesterday and only did 8000. I don't know how people do it)
*only 2 slices of bread a day
*eat porridge before bed to help with the marathon nighttime nursing sessions, and stop me feeling sick from hunger all night long
*do some yoga/Jillian a couple of times a week, to build up to starting more regular hardcore exercise
*do some more work in the garden, it's proper food for the soul and it's a right state out there
*go swimming once a week*

*I reserve the right to back out of the last one. I'll have to go on my own and I'm not overly keen at the moment. And I think I'll get bored. I used to love swimming though, I should get back into it. I just really want some time on my own. Any time. Just 10 minutes would be great.

CP, just put '10 minutes on my own' on your list. It doesn't have to be physical fitness related. Mental health also included!

I have developed a serious sugar addiction as a form of comfort eating.

This week:
-I pledge to do the crazy crossfit 10 minute video every 2nd day (so that's Tues, Thurs, Sat as I did it today)
-not eat ANY sweets (as in candy, I just ate an entire back of tangfastics )
-go to zumba on thursday night
-eat like I like myself.
-go for a run another day this week.

Hooray lots of buddies!

Good luck everyone!

I am going to add
- be in bed (and asleep) by 10pm one night per week.

I so need to do this. I am lucky that my weight never ever seems to change whatever I eat or don't eat and I'm slim, but that means it is very easy not to think too much about exercise and healthy eating, or generally looking after myself. I often skip breakfast by accident (too much rushing about) snack on really bad junk if I can get my hands on it, can never eat just one biscuit, eat chocolate post bedtime most nights, give the children all the fruit etc.

I will try to:

Eat breakfast every day
Count my five a day
Drink more water
Floss my teeth every evening
Use handcream after washing up/washing hands
Use body moisturiser after every shower
Make an effort to stop biting my nails again
When snacking always eat something healthy first before allowing myself anything not so good (and think about if I'm really hungry or not)
Oh and I like BC's bedtime one - I will try for at least 2 nights a week before 10pm

Exercise will have to come later but I do walk pretty much everywhere, usually carrying 10kg of baby with me. Maybe I will up the pace on the journeys I don't also have a 3 or 5 year old with me.

I love this idea.

My goals:
- Do some form of workout at least 5 days a week.
- Allow myself to nap when I'm exhausted, and not feel guilty because I "should be doing things" in that time.
- Snack less, and go for healthier options when I snack.
- Make time for some art or crafting every day, even if it is just 5 minutes.

I'm starting low!

- Do something just for me for 10 minutes everyday (showering without an audience counts, preparing dinner does not).

Have just done this yoga workout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU2uj7W08wo

Pretty challenging (for me at least - I don't do yoga!!) lots of body weight resistance. Slightly frustrating as I can tell my form isn't great but I can work on that!
