I've been trying to download the Nhs podcasts on my iPhone and just can't seem to do it! Am I being a bit thick?

I want a v basic app that will tell me run for 1 min NOW, walk for 1 min NOW, am a complete unfit running virgin so need gentle and basic! Can anyone recommend anything - or tell me how to work the Nhs one?!

There is a free app in the app store call C25K which I used - I never even attempted the podcasts!

Fab, will have a look, thank you - how did you get on? Do you run now?

Am happily running 5-7k a few days a week :D

To be honest, I found it a bit restrictive after a few weeks, and started doing my own thing a bit more, but it was absolutely fantastic for getting me going. I also have the mapmyrun app, which is another free one that tracks your distance, route, pace etc, and that's what I use now to keep track of my progress.

I found the nhs c25k was really good with your new best friend Laura offering encouragement and.tips so it would be worth another try! She also tells you when you are halfway through a stretch.of running and when you have 60 seconds left which is very helpful. I just restarted after doing nothing for ages but was fine starting at week 5.

Still can't work the Nhs podcast thing, but need to sort it out - had downloaded davina's fitness app and another c25k app which both look good, but my iPhone is quite bulky so I figure if I could somehow put the Nhs podcasts on my v old iPod which would be smaller to run with - although then wouldn't have a phone to ring for emergency help if I need it!! Haven't started running yet, OH working away at a food show Fri-Sun so will probably be next week now. Have bought running shoes and gel cups though so have to do it now!

I have spent an outrageous amount on new trainers and some Nike capri leggings so i also have to stick with it! My phone is also bulky so i run without it but am never really more than a few minutes from a house where i know someone who does the same school run as me. I am thinking of braving our local absolute beginners group so i don't have to run onmy own. I want to do week 5 run 3 today before i go away for the weekend but don't really have time.

I finally started this morning - and I found it really, really hard. I didn't think running for just 1 minute would be so painful, I am so unfit. Also painfully red in the face for over an hour after running, was v relieved there was no one out at that ungodly hour to witness it!

Phone was a real pain, kept falling out of my pocket. I bought an arm band but it's too tight!

Please tell me it will get easier.....

Don't mean to sound so negative, am v proud I did it (but anxious about next time already!)

((((mindy))) Yes it will get easier! When I started back in late Feb I couldn't run for more than 90 secs and it was PAINFUL. I'm now running 3-4 miles 3 or four times a week and training for a 10k at the end of the summer. Stick with it for a few weeks and I'm sure you'll feel the difference. x

Mindy, it really does get easier. I'm on week 5, and I felt like you after my first run. Now I almost enjoy it, and I've started getting up early so I can go running at 6am!!! My DH thinks I've lost the plot

I love going out early. I've seen deer, rabbits and squirrels on my runs, it's lovely when there's hardly anyone else around. I hold my phone in my hand, I like to be able to check how much longer I have to run/walk. I'm also rediscovering some great old albums on Spotify while running :D

You can do it, if I can then anyone can!

I just did my 1st NHS C25k "run" yesterday :)
Downloaded it years ago, & don't remberer there bring any problems. Anyone used the running thing on the Davina app, as I've got the app but not used it yet, how does it compare to the NHS one?

I'm using the C25K free app, well technically the C210K one as DH joked I should enter a 10K race so I swapped to that one instead! No idea about NHS or Davina, sorry Carlylou.

How did you get on, Carlylou? My friend uses the Davina one and says she is v motivating. I took your advice TF, and took it a bit easier this morning - in between gasping for breath I saw swans, cygnets and squirrels, perhaps things aren't too bad after all!
