Simple pattern for girls dress please?

Because BLW isn't just for lentil-weavers. Some of us like to piddle about with bits of felt and sticky-backed plastic as well.

Simple pattern for girls dress please?

Postby welshrarebit » 08 Sep 2013, 16:40

I've just signed up for a 6 week beginners dressmaking sewing class and I want to sew a simple 'jumper' type pinafore dress for my DD who is a tallish 3.5yo. I need to take along a paper pattern and material - can anyone help me find a super simple pattern please? Something like this:

- one of the comments says its based on mccalls 5146 pattern but that is only age 1-3 so I'd need something bigger. Ideally I'd like to be able to make in a heavier fabric for winter.

Watching with interest, I am also starting a short course this week in making kids clothes.
Two girls, Bug (2010) and Bobs (2007) in the cloud-nest, and a boy, Boo, too (February 2014)

Well my search so far has thrown up Butterick B3772 as a good contender. However by the time postage is added on its close to £10 delivered - seems a bit steep to me but then I'm a sewing novice so what do I know! Together with the cost of the sewing course this is turning into the most expensive dress ever!

Would still welcome other suggestions please.

I keep seeing this pop up on Pinterest - not having a girl to sew for myself I've never pinned it but it's very sweet (and I'm not a drss/skirt person myself so that's saying a lot!).

Thanks Sal, that dress does look cute but my DD a bit too big for it. I've ordered the Butterick pattern I mentioned above. Next challenge, find some nice funky heavyweight fabric for a winter dress...
