Anyone do stencils and spray paint?

Because BLW isn't just for lentil-weavers. Some of us like to piddle about with bits of felt and sticky-backed plastic as well.

Anyone do stencils and spray paint?

Postby supermansmum » 03 Jul 2013, 17:15

Hi I've started making some pictures this week cutting out stencils and using spray paint but they keep bleeding a bit.

I'm printing out pictures on normal a4 paper, cutting them, positioning onto canvas, using the spray repositioning adhesive and then using acrylic spray paints.

I'm pretty happy with the positioning and making sure it is all flattened down but it still bleeds though a bit so the lines are far from precise.

Anyone else tried or do this and have any tips....is there a better paper I should use for stencilling or would cheap canvases be to blame?

I'd say you need something that adheres to the canvas. Or thicker paper?
When I do fabric I use freezer paper and fabric paint.
Could you paint the paper and mod podge it onto the canvas?

I always used sticky-backed paper. And do more lighter coats as heavier coats tend to bleed?
