Vomiting

Postby Tree060 » 13 Sep 2016, 06:31

Hello!

Yesterday I gave my 6 month old his first ever solids. It was cut up banana. He didn't have very much but after a few minutes he threw up everything!
Is that normal? I can't seem to find anything about it.
He had had his normal milk feed not long before, could that effect it?

Thanks.

Yes, it's normal. Yes, it could well be that leaving a bit longer after a milk feed makes him less likely to vomit. But some babies just do vomit and that's that.

It's grim, but as long as he's happy your best plan is to grin and bear it, wipe up and carry on. Sorry.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I knew it was going to be messy but I wasn't expecting that!

I know lots of parents have reported bananas to be quite gaggy. I also had trouble a couple of times with particularly tasty foods, and a baby who didn't know when to stop. (The answer to that one is, apparently, before you eat your tenth dried apricot.)
I would try a variety of textures or squishableness (I'm sure that's a word). It will make your baby slow down and practice chewing better!

He's tried broccoli and carrots now. Both were a lot more successful! :-)
