I think that there is often a lot of supportive pm-ing going on behind the scenes when someone posts about an issue, people who want to help/share their experiences but wouldn't post openly on the forum. The number of people who have access to the secret confessions log in would probably put someone off pm-ing in those circumstances. I know it's the internet and therefore never secure anyway but it's sad to think that someone might not get a helpful message at a dark time because they'd used a universal log in.
Also, I don't quite know what pleasure trolls get from doing what they do but they can be very nasty, much easier to identify as one if they are a fresh new log in.
