We (Aitch and the mods) wanted to raise the issue of universal log ins - secretconfessions and craftswap being the two that immediately spring to mind.
Whilst these log ins were started with all good intent, we are having some grave concerns about the potential of misuse or, more seriously, as an alias that may have unintended consequences.
We have no desire to prevent anyone from creating an anonymous log on. However, if everyone who does require anonymity, is required to create their own personal anonymous log-in, there is still some trail back to that individual. This is really important as it is the only way we have to identify and prevent trolling - although , as yet, we have not experienced any of the worst kind of that on-line behaviour. Lets hope it stays that way - but communal log-ins do pose a threat in that way.
In addition, and this may be harder for some to feel comfortable with, in the event that an anonymous poster should ever indicate such serious issues as self-harm or worse, the ability for us as mods to try to reach them could be very important. Again, communal log-ins break that vital link.
We would like to disable those communal log ins to prevent them being used again. I am sure that we can find a work around solution for the craftswaps. However, giving the general spirit of inclusion on the forum, we didn't feel comfortable acting unilaterally. We welcome your views on this issue. (The final decision will ultimately rest with Aitch and the mod team and we hope you can understand that it won't be taken lightly or without due consideration of all views expressed here.)
