Spam, new members and stuff

Postby gingerbreadhouse » 04 Aug 2011, 15:26

Just wondering really, as there seems to have been another round of spamming. What's happened to new members needing to be approved before they can post anywhere other than intros? Apologies if I've missed a policy decision somewhere, it just seems that there's been an increase in (sometimes almost convincing :wink) spam. Was the 'pen' making too much work for the mods? Understand if it was!

(As an aside, if more mods are needed, I may be able to help)

Hi passata, thanks for your offer. When you see spam & others who are reading this please remember to report the post using the ! box. We did stop the newbie release pen as we weren't getting much spam but as its building up we may need to re-introduce it.

Thanks B&M. I've been reporting some stuff, but then was worried about creating work for you all! And I didnt report yesterday's baby monitor post because people had already started replying to it and then it felt mean

There's an odd one on a very old back to back baby thread that I've just noticed is just stealing Ches' post from earlier in the thread, only not quoting it! They're getting a bit too sneaky!

Hmm I saw that too - was waiting for him/her to post an overtly spammy one before booting.

Maybe I'm getting a little suspicious in my old age ;-).
