Where would you go on holiday?

Dh has been made redundant. Doing okay with plans to retrain, go to college etc. So all positive really.

He's just received his statutory redundancy pay and it is a bit more than expected

So, we've decided to do the "mature" thing and splurge some of it on a holiday.

Where would you recommend? We are so undecided!

Thoughts :

-school holidays
-1 or 2 weeks
-dd is now 4
-we'd like to go either October half term or next Easter
-budget is £1500 for all travel and accommodation

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Barcelona!! You could have a great time here with that. It will still be hot and there's tons of stuff to do. And we could meet for a coffee

I would agree Barcelona would make a fab holiday - especially Easter when it would be likely to be warm.

Further afield what about Morocco, Turkey, Sri Lanka? Or Iceland, Finland or Canada? Not sure about flight prices for all of those but I suppose it also depends on the type of accommodation you'd be looking for. We have often stayed in apartment type places because of ease of having a kitchen for kids meals etc and they often work out much cheaper than hotels etc. or airbnb ?

Barcelona is awesome. I know some sites for renting an apartment for a week or two, the areas to stay in and which to avoid. If you need any info give me a shout x

I think you need to decide what kind of holiday you want first - active where there is lots to see and do and places to go, or a relaxing holiday by the beach/pool where the kids can play and you can relax?

Though personally I'd be off to visit Gizmo like a shot

Gizmo, is Barcelona easy to get around without a car?

Have found some nice cheap deals but the accommodation is all quite far out of the centre.

Sorry didn't see this last night. Yep no probs will put some info together and send it through. Gracia is the best place to stay, super cool atmosphere and without doubt the best place in Bcn (can you tell I love it ) Loads of places to eat and drink and have decent coffee without it breaking the bank. When you're looking for places look on the map between Joanic & Fontana metro stops, that's the heart of it. My friend booked a lovely little apartment a while ago and her and her DH & twin boys loved it, I'm positive I have the details for that apartment somewhere so will dig through some old emails later for you. Avoid the Ramblas & Barceloneta for staying in, those are the pits and full of nasties at night.

It's super easy to get around. We don't have a car and manage really well with 2. The metro system is fast and easy, buses are also good.
