That's interesting StJ and mp. I will probably let him come in and see the baby, see how interested he is in her, etc. and then only get the present out once he starts to get bored or if he seems a bit antsy or upset or whatever.

Something I've been thinking about too. Although we already have a million too many toy vehicles, I think Moo might get a toy rubbish truck from the baby. I've also got a few matchbox cars on standby for when we have to leave him at home whilst we're at the hospital, grandpa can produce them at intervals if necessary!

Treeb - if you're taking the present to hospital, maybe not the balance bike?

We got our 2 a book each, a personalised story with their name in, but it was from us not the baby. As it was so many other people gave them gifts when they gave us baby stuff, we didn't give them the books for quite a few days. It was nice though to have some extra things stashed away for when all the initial visitors etc had calmed down.

When A came into hospital, R was asleep in the crib, and I don't think A even noticed him for a while - it was the first time A and I had spent a night apart and she just wanted hugs with me for a while. I had missed her so much, it was lovely.

We definitely got Stompy a toy hospital when Squeak was born, but i cant remember if we said it was "from" Squeak. :? She knew it was a 'big girl present' for her, that the baby couldn't play with but as Squeak was a home birth, and Stompy was there at the time, therew as no pretence that Squeak bought it for her!

the Wee one got Roo a gruffalo Russian doll set and we gave it to him after he had met his little brother. Roo had packed a bag with toys to keep him occupied during the visit and he had snuck in one of his wooden Thomas engines for The Wee One to play with in hospital! :D

Roo talked about The Wee One a lot but wasn't that keen on hands on interaction to start with. That took a couple of days.

We also got a present (a bunch of toy cars), but not from the baby. Saurus was 1 and 5 months, though, so he wouldn't have cared who it was from. It was more something special for him to do when I was busy doing baby stuff. I guess if he'd been interested in the present's origins, we might have just said it was from us to congratulate him on becoming a big brother.
Saurus (April 2012) wants to open all the cupboards to see the pipes.
Zilla (December 2013) is unstoppable. And really likes pizza.
Turtle (November 2015) isn't cute yet, but he's working on it.
And Mia and Oreo are my emotional support cats.

We didn't do presents, it never occurred to us. I guess it's not our style? Our eldest (23m at the time) was very interested in saying hello to the baby, and then proceeded to be very interested in discovering everything else in the hospital room, and finally very interested in eating a snack. I'd say it was a great first meeting!
I love my kiddos! Two April girls (2011 and 2013) and a May boy (2016). I guess we have spring babies in this family.

We did do presents both from and to the baby. All three of mine were born at home so the girls were both there for Grapey's birth and the Chooby was around for most of my labour and the birth of Squirmy. Both times there was a doll for them to wrap that was a similar style to one the Chooby got when she was tiny - an excellent job for bored children asking when the baby will actually arrive! From Squirmy came a doll's cradle so the Chooby could play Mummys with her dolls rather than treating Squirmy as her plaything. Cradle wasn't a successful gift but Squirmy has grown to love it. Grapey was much more sensible and got a tea-set and book collection which the girls adored as they were exactly what they would have chosen themselves.

Just realised I used Bam's RL in-bump name instead of forum name - it's been THAT long! (Girls named the bump when he would have been the size of a grape :-)

I did wonder when I read that! Bam is such a good name too :)

Dd1 got a cuddly toy for DD2 and received a Room on the Broom sound book in return. She loved it and it kept her occupied.

Ok...so I have a great sentimental gift idea for an older sibling when the new baby puts in an appearance, but its a shameless plug for my business, so nobody shoot me!

An embroidered keepsake made from the older sibling's artwork, maybe a picture they've drawn of the baby or of their new larger family. I can accuratly reproduce their drawing in free motion embroidery on a tshirt for them, or as framed art, or bunting for their room. If you want to take a look... http://www.bowbeanie.etsy.com

It's a lovely idea Raktajino. I did something similar with the Chooby's drawings when I made her a table tent. Such a beautiful thing to capture and keep.

I love your work Raktajino! Unfortunately, L is still just in the scribbling phase and hasn't started drawing any actual pictures, so it wouldn't work for us just yet.
