Pregnancy Updates - January

I think I heard once salt is good for cramps. Or that they happen if you have low salt.

Only 11 weeks here but fluctuating between constipation and loose poos, as my DH calls them. Bloody annoying! Suspect the folic acid (if I forget to take it, poos are fine). Hrmmm. One more week then I can stop taking it anyway.

Fingers crossed for speedy results YP - our harmony results came back after 8 days, much quicker than they told us. Every day feels like forever when you're waiting, doesn't it?

And big hugs and sympathies to everyone else, it's ironic that we wanted this so much and now it feels so hard! Back to work today after 10 days with a horrid virus, but my spd back pain and sciatica are so awful it often makes me cry. The thought of another 22 weeks of it definitely makes me cry. Seeing physio again on Wed, was awake most of night with sciatic pain. Pregnancy is definitely not glamorous.

That's interesting to hear mindy, I've switched that bit of my brain off for today I think, and we're pretty busy all week which is good. Hope the physio can do something for your pain, it sounds awful.

RedRum - thanks for being so lovely and considerate but I'm on here to join in the 'trivial' things too (hope the cramp has subsided?). Hopefully in a week or so I will be here complaining about me waking up all night now Moo has started to sleep better.

Moan alert... Been woken last night and the night before with horrible headaches/migraine. Feel like I've beaten about the head and am sooo tired as they've kept me awake most of the night. Got checked by mW today and all is fine, just got to hope for no more... Oh I do miss drugs in pregnancy...

Thank you all for letting me bob along in the forum stream for the last 2 weeks whilst we've been deciding what to do then waiting for results. They came back early and GOOD NEWS - very low risk of Down syndrome, hurrah!

No ideas why one blood level is ridiculously high, possibly linked to placenta function so the consultant we saw privately for the test has recommended monthly scans from 24/ 28 weeks to check growth. Anyone any experience of extra scans - how did you get them, was the NHS willing or reluctant?

Monthly or weekly scans?

I had extra scans cos I had placenta praevia with SM, they were just booked in when I went in for them. I didn't do anything to organise them. I think at my 20 week scan they decided to do another one at 28 weeks, then they decided another at 32 weeks and then another at 36. I guess that was the scan department though deciding that so no communicating with consultants to get it organised as such.

KC - he said monthly, like you starting at 28 weeks. I'll talk to my midwife when I see her at 16 weeks next week and see if she has any ideas how they would decide here.

Yay YP, really pleased to read that Hope there is no issue getting the scans you need.

It's all feeling very real at the moment here! I'm 37 weeks. Nursery is ready, completely unnecessarily as he won't be in it for months but I felt compelled to do it and at least it's done. Moses basket bedding is all washed and ready. Hospital bag is nearly ready, I've just put some teeny clothes (forgot how teeny they were!) in this morning as well as B's present from baby (an Elsa dress). I see my consultant tomorrow, hopefully to book an ELCS date. I'm not sure how they can say no - I have made it clear that I want one all along and they have been OK with it and now I have placenta praevia - but feeling a bit worried that I might see someone obstructive and have to be really firm which I don't really have the energy for. Will report back!

I also booked in with my hairdresser to make my hair pink next week So excited! (for anyone who isn't fb friends with me and probably sick to death of hearing about it lol, I'm going pink to raise money for Pregnancy Sickness Support, the Hyperemesis Gravidarum charity I volunteer for).

Wow how exciting p_h, and well done on all the preparedness! Hope it goes to plan with the consultant, sure it will do from what you've said.

According to the fetal anomaly specialist mw I've been speaking to, they won't give me extra scans as they only look at the other hormone level, and it has to be really low for them to do it, mine was just low. I'll see what the community mw says next week, I'm going to fight if this is the case! Annoying that the consultant we saw privately is from a different hospital from our nhs trust or he might have power. Might get him to write a letter with his recommendations.
