more name help!

Postby treek » 09 Dec 2014, 15:53

So....having seen it on a name thread on here, I've really taken a fancy to Orrin/Orran for a boy, but was wondering what people thought of Oren as a girl's name? I know traditionally it's a boy's name, but I've from my googling it would seem some people have used it for a girl?

Any other suggestions are also welcomed! We've got an I name already, so trying to avoid that initial and I'm not too keen on -ia or -ie/-ey endings for girls:p not that I'm awkward or anything

Oooh, I think Oren is lovely for a girl. A friend recently named her daughter Honor which has a similar kind of ring and which I think is lovely too.

Oren looks and sounds nice for a girl. We had Oran in our boys list - it's Gaelic for 'song'.

I hadn't realised that! I kept seeing 'pale' as the meaning, which was putting me off a bit...! :?
Glad people don't think it's too weird :) how would you pronounce it? I've seen some places say oh-ren/ran and some au-ren/ran!

With an oh sound at the beginning... Not sure how to spell how I pronounce the ending...! Might depend on accent... Like Lauren without the L I suppose.

That's what I thought (Lauren without the 'l'). Now I've just got to hope dh doesn't change his mind (although that's not to say I won't!). I'm glad people don't think it's too masculine sounding :)

Although it does mean if we did go for baby no.3 we wouldn't be able to re-use our potential names.... :D

Like Lauren without the L

I know an Oren, and this is how she's pronounced. I think it's lovely - different but straightforward.
