Wisdom teeth and pregnancy

My wisdom teeth are killing me. I only have two (?!) top left and bottom right, the bottom right one has grown at a right angle to my other teeth, horizontally so that it's top is against the next molar. The top left one which has never given me too much bother before and was only partially grown seems to be growing out now into my cheek and it hurts a lot. The gum and cheek is very red and sore. When over been to the dentist with them previously they've said they wouldn't extract them unless they were painful which I thought was fair enough, but now they are, and now I don't know what to do because the idea of having them out with local anaesthetic only is terrifying. WWYD? I'm tempted just to lived with it and hope it calms down again...

Mine do sometimes get sore then stop - hope that's the case for you.

Top wisdom teeth are generally pretty easy to extract. I'm not particularly hard, but had both my top ones out with local during (separate) tea breaks and went straight back to work afterwards! Lower ones are a bit trickier, but should still be fine with local. See your dentist as soon as you can. You may well have an infection which can be easily fixed with antibiotics.

Thanks both. That's what I'm hoping for jvnt! TF - thank you, that's reassuring. What about pain relief afterwards? Would it be manageable with just paracetamol? Sorry to be a wuss, I've never had a tooth out, only had my first tiny filling this year!

My wisdom teeth flared up during pregnancy. I have had the top ones out using local and it was fine, but mine were the bottom ones and the dentist was happy to give anti-biotics and wait until the pregnancy was over before removal. Since being pregnant they've been fine!

I had only one, on the bottom right, which I had out with only local anesthetic and it was fine. However, it wasn't growing at any odd angles or anything so I don't know if that complicates taking it out.

I haven't got any of mine through but one does often cause pain then settles down so hopefully yours will do the same. My mum got one wisdom tooth in each of her 3 pregnancies so I wonder if the hormones have some effect on them.

You have my sympathies, I also have a horizontal wisdom tooth and the idea of having it out doesn't make me feel happy either. I'm a total wuss. Fingers crossed it just needs some ABs.

Got an appointment for this afternoon. Get in NHS.

Hopefully they'll just give me some ABs and it'll go away, but it really hurts :(

I've had 3 wisdom teeth removed with local anaesthetic. I won't say it was pleasant, but I got over it quickly enough. As far as I'm aware, you can have codeine during pregnancy so paracetamol wouldn't be your only option.

Have ABs, will see how it goes. She said they'd only remove repeat offenders.
